| Quick Heart update for KevinHe got diagnosed with leaky Aortic/Mitral valves 2 yrs ago. He has no symptoms and found it on a routine physical. He will need an open heart surgery eventually to replace it. We follow-up every 6 months-year to make sure he does not need surgery now. The MRI he had a few weeks ago showed his heart was enlarged, but the valves had not changed how leaky they are. He had two more tests today to make sure his heart was performing fine. They results are good and the doctor feels he can continue the same meds and get a follow-up MRI in 6 months.
Praise God!

| Spring in reviewSo I realize that is has been a very long time since I last blogged. Sorry...we have been a little busy around here. Now that it is the first of June and the heat is already creeping close to 100, it seems that spring has left us.
Here are the things that have kept us busy this spring:
We wrapped up the end of basketball. Isaac's Kindergarten basketball team was so good and we had a GREAT coach. They ended the year playing in the tournament in the 1st grade level. I thought it would be a short tournament for us, but they went all the way to the last game and got 2nd in the 1st grade level!
The boys had a week off after tournament and then Cooper's baseball league started. This is when Kevin and i took a 10 yr. anniversary trip to the BVI!!
This was our beach where we got to relax and read books and snorkel.
We even got to finish our conversations. It was so great to have a break from our busy life and remember why we got married and really take some time to work on listening to each other. We used the book by Dan Allender to get us talking. Before we left Mei had a fever of 104 for 7 days. On the 2nd to the last day, Isaac came down with the 104 and by the time we arrived back, Cooper also had the 104 fever that lasted 6-7 days. Kevin's parents were so great to come up and watch the kids while we escaped:)
Cooper had one of the star parts in the 2nd grade play! He was the stink bug. He had several lines and did a great job!
This one turned 4 and we had a small ballet party when we returned.
I can't believe how much she has grown! She lives in her ballet shoes when we are home. She goes over to her ballet bag and can get changed "ALL by MYSELF" which is something that comes out of her mouth many times a day.
Baseball madness:
I had no idea what I signed the boys up for when we started them in these competitive leagues. I was thinking they would both have one game each on Sat. I almost cried when I got the schedule and realized that they had 2-3 games EACH per week!! Visions of my LONG days and nights at my little brother's baseball games came rushing back to me. I am thankful my boys have a run/time limit. It has been very tiring, though. So one week, between the two boys, we had 7 games!! I was never so happy as when one of the games got rained out!! They both had a great time and grew some much in their baseball skills. This week is Isaac's last tournament games. His team beat Steve McNair's son's team yesterday! That team was undefeated until yesterday:) They smashed us the other 3 times they played us. We all were very proud of their improvements!
Cooper just turned 8!
We had his birthday at a place in town where he got to star in his own movie. It is very cute. It was costly so he only got to invite a couple of friends, but he had a great time. He has always loved pretending he is someone else, anyway, so I knew he would enjoy acting. He got enough legos to keep him busy for a couple of weeks.
Kevin was out of town 4-5 times this spring and his grandmother died in April. He was able to go down and say good-bye and we all went to FL for the funeral. Grandma Doris felt like a 3rd grandmother for the kids because we saw her a couple times a year and we all loved her very much. She is missed. Kevin got to preach at her funeral.
Another sadness is that Steven Curtis Chapman's daughter died this May. If you have not heard about it, you can go here I have taken Mei to thier house before for thier Asian Invasion playgroups and have known the Chapmans for the past 10 years from CCC days. I was in a small group from church with Mary Beth when Emily Chapman started putting letters on her mother's pillow about adopting a baby from China. I had no idea then that I would be affected by those letters myself and the role their experience would play in us adopting Mei Mei! Maria's death has been so heart-breaking. Please pray for this family as they struggle through this valley.
Now it is summer and you can bet we are at the Y pool swimming and trying to enjoy the long days.

| Date Night/A Trip to the ER..So here is the Date Night story... Kevin took me out for Valentines Saturday night. Our plan for this much needed night out was dinner and a movie. I had been craving the food from the Mama Mia's down the street from our house. So we went there early before the 7pm movie. We had just finished our meal and the waitress had just collected our money for the bill. i looked down and saw my phone was ringing and it was the babysitter calling. I said "Oh no, What is wrong?", hoping it was a quick question. She was very calm and said that "there had been an accident and Isaac bumped his head. He was ok, but it was bleeding ALOT so she called 911". As soon as she had the words "911" out of her mouth, I saw the lights and heard the emergency truck go by the restaurant! (remember, we were eating right down the road from our house) I jumped out of my seat and ran back to tell the waitress she had to hurry because we had and emergency! My heart was racing at this point and all I could think about was getting home before they took my baby away to the hospital without me. We got home in about two minutes and pulled into the drive way to see both of my Kurdish neighbors in the doorway checking on everyone and 3-4 firemen. it was a fire truck from the station down the street that I had heard go by. I had a short wave of gratitude as I walked up my front steps thinking that my sweet Kurdish Neighbors (the ones on one side of us that barely know English) would come over to see if they could help as soon as the truck pulled up. This feeling left as soon as I walked in the door and went straight to Isaac to assess him. He had a a gash on the back of his head about an inch long and split apart 3/4 of an inch. So the fireman confirmed that he did need stitches. So I told them I would take him, because it had stopped bleeding. The babysitter did a great job applying pressure. So I took him to the Vandy ER and loaded up his favorite blanket and a couple of lovies and a bag full of books to read(we are still doing a read-a-thon at school).
We stayed in the main lobby (sick/flu) waiting area for about 1.5 hrs then moved to a smaller, quieter waiting room with only f 4-5 other patients that did not look as sick/fluish. We stayed a total of 4 hrs. Isaac finally fell asleep about 10:15pm in my arms. We finally got 4 staples and a green popcycle about 11:10pm. We left soon after. It was not a bad trip and the injury could have been much worse, so we are thankful. One thing I am hoping we did not take home with us is the Flu. We have avoided it so far, but I fear our time in the sick waiting room has exposed us. i asked the nurse how long is the normal wait time for the onset of the flu. She said 3 days....
Isaac asked this morning, "Now can I get a puppy?" He is doing just fine, just a little tired today.

| Catching up....
This is Isaac the night LOST his first TWO teeth! It was bedtime and we were actually in a hurry to get the kids in bed so we could watch the first show of LOST this season. We were very excited to see it. We thought we had gotten everyone settled in and went back downstairs. Then we heard footsteps running around and Cooper was yelling for us to come quick. i had not heard a loud boom so I did not think it was an injury. So as we went upstairs we realized that Isaac had lost his first tooth! Actually, his brother had pulled it out! After there was pictures, celebration and a tooth under the pillow, we walked back downstairs. We knew he had another tooth lose, but we did not know that before we could get settled on the couch, there would be more yelling and running around and yet ANOTHER tooth that had been pulled. This time the tooth was pulled by Isaac. So more clean-up, celebration, more pictures and one more tooth under the pillow. So then we finally got everyone back to bed and tucked in for the night. We still got to see our show! All was not Lost, because of TiVo. Yeah for new shows!
Happy Chinese New Year! The year of the Rat! We celebrated this year at a New Years' celebration with our local FCC group. (Others that have adopted from China in our area) There were the cutest little girls dancing and there was also a Dancing Dragon the made an appearance! It is so fun to celebrate this with our dear friends.
Cooper as Ron from Harry Potter. He got to dress up at school as his favorite book character. He chose Ron. He read some Harry Potter for the read-a-thon at school. Pretty crazy to think that 2 years ago in Kindergarten he was just learning to read. Isaac is in that camp right now and I am so proud of him!
Happy Heart Day! I gave Kevin a Wii for Valentines. The boys got games for it. I was not planning on this, but walked into Game Stop the other day in the mall and asked how easy it was to get a Wii post Christmas, because I was thinking birthdays this summer. The guy said they had one right now. As I was talking, another man came in and wanted to buy it. I called Kevin and he said buy it! I still thought we would just wait to give it to everyone in the summer, but it kept coming out of the package at night after the kids went to bed and I feared we would not be able to keep it under wraps any longer. So we had a very fun Valentines night of family fun. I did start to crave italian food that night and tried to run down the street to get take out, but our favorite Italian place 2 minutes down the road was not open because of an emergency. Kevin said he would take me there Sat. night on a date, so I had to wait. Little did I know we would have our own emergency Sat. night. Have to post more later... | | |
